“McCovey Day Today!”

Sept. 18, 1977: Willie McCovey hits a game winning walk-off RBI single to LF off Pedro Borbon driving in Derrel Thomas. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986.

One of the most beautiful things about my grandma’s sincere and genuine love of MLB baseball was how she admired and respected the games great’s accomplishments as much as her own beloved Reds.

Look at how big she wrote, “McCovey Day Today!” You could always tell her enthusiasm and excitement by the size of her writing. You can tell how much respect she had for him. He had a lot of big games and moments against her Reds.
